Hazem Galal is PwC’s Cities and Local Government Global Leader. He has expertise in strategy formulation and implementation for cities and local government entities. Hazem is a member of the WEF’s Global Future Council on Cities and Urbanization. He was also the co-chair for the working group on city connectivity, as part of the ITU and UNESE’s initiative Smart Sustainable Cities. He was a key contributor to the ISO 32170 for smart infrastructure.

He worked with cities and state governments around the world such in both developed and developing countries such as New York, Colorado State, Al Madinah, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Makkah, Amsterdam, Moscow, Sochi, Saint Petersburg, Rio de Janeiro, Singapore, Astana, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kond and Beijing and many others.

Along with his client work, Hazem is also the co-author of the book “Delivering Sustainable Competitiveness - Revisiting the organising capacity of cities”. Hazem has also been the project adviser for the World Economic Forum’s research for the Future of Urban Development of Services, publishing the following thought leadership reports: “Migration and its impact on cities”, “Making Affordable Housing a Reality in Cities”, “Harnessing Public-Private Cooperation to Deliver the New Urban Agenda”, “Future Cities and Urban Services: Shaping the Future of Urban Development & Services” and is currently leading a project for the “Impact of 5G on Cities”.

Hazem is a speaker at numerous global conferences on cities, hosting mega events, innovation, sustainable development and smart communities  organized by national governments, the World Economic Forum, World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations and other international bodies in developed and developing countries, including the BRICS.  He has been hosted as a cities experts on several occasions by leading media channels such as the BBC, CNBC, CNN, Russia Today and Channel News Asia.

Hazem holds a Computer Science/ Engineering BSC from the California State University and a Masters in Business Administration for UC Berkeley.  He is fluent in Arabic, English, Portuguese and Spanish.
